What could happen today?

Indian equity markets are expected to remain cautious as elevated crude oil prices, rising U.S. Treasury yields and continued geopolitical uncertainty weigh on overall sentiment.

Nifty 50 remains under significant technical pressure after the sharp decline in the last session, with the broader structure staying decisively weak. On the way up, 23,200–23,300 is likely to act as the immediate resistance zone.

On the downside, 23,000 stays the key psychological support to watch. A decisive breakdown below this level would likely accelerate selling and open the door toward 22,900–22,800 zone

The Investors Lens

How Does the Insurance Industry Make Money?

When you buy an insurance policy, the premium doesn’t simply go from you to the insurance company, an entire ecosystem earns from that transaction.

The insurer collects premiums, pays claims and earns through underwriting profits and returns on the premiums it invests.

Agents and brokers help insurers acquire customers and earn commissions for distributing policies, while brokers may also provide advisory and placement services.

When a claim occurs, hospitals, garages, repair centres and other service providers earn by providing the actual service covered by the policy.

Insurers may also work with TPAs (Third-Party Administrators), particularly in health insurance, to manage claims and coordinate between customers, hospitals and insurers.

Behind the scenes, reinsurers take on part of an insurer’s risk and earn premiums for providing that protection.

So the insurance chain is essentially:

Customer → Distributor → Insurer → Service Provider → Reinsurer, with different participants earning at different stages.

The key takeaway: Insurance is not just about selling policies, it is an entire financial ecosystem built around pricing, transferring and managing risk.
