Minimum allocation

If minimum margin requirements for a trade as per regulations is 50k and “minimum allocation” for a stratzy algo is 100k, can i make minimum allocation to 50k. if yes, What are implications.

Hi @nijinwilson

No. The capital allocation for an Algo can only be set within the minimum and maximum allocation limits defined for that particular Algo.

If the minimum allocation for an Algo is ₹1,00,000, it cannot be reduced to ₹50,000, even if the margin required for a particular trade is lower, as margin required for each trade varies and is not a constant.

The minimum and maximum allocation limits are predefined for each Algo and need to be followed while deploying the strategy.

Can you tell me rationale behind insisting 100k for an algo when regulatory margin requirements for deploying that particular trade is 50k.

Hi @nijinwilson

As mentioned previously, the margin required for a trade is not fixed and varies from one trade to another.

The margin requirement is determined by the broker based on factors such as SPAN, Exposure, market volatility, time to expiry, and other regulatory parameters. While you may have observed a trade requiring around ₹50,000, there can be other trades where the required margin is ₹40,000, ₹60,000, ₹70,000, or even higher.

The minimum allocation for an Algo is therefore defined keeping these varying margin requirements in mind, so that the Algo has sufficient capital available to execute its trades consistently across different market conditions.

I hope this clarifies your point.
