Nifty 50: Nifty opened with a gap up at 23,576 but faced selling pressure near the 23,600 mark and closed at 23,118, down by -280 points from the previous day close.
Nifty continued to face downward/selling pressure due to combination of reasons such as the geopolitical tensions, high crude oil prices and US bond yields.
Nifty has fallen nearly 4% in September, marking its seventh consecutive week of decline, a sustained stretch of weakness that highlights the increasing pressure on Indian equities.
Sensex: Sensex closed at 74,000, down by -778 points (-1.04%) amid uncertain market conditions.
